About Morphy Chess

Morphy Chess is a free browser game and a small tribute to Paul Morphy (1837–1884), the New Orleans prodigy who became the best player in the world before he was 22.

The idea is simple: what would it be like to sit across the board from Morphy at different points in his life? The five-year-old who learned by watching, the boy who beat a general, the twelve-year-old who held off a European master, and the teenager who was already one of the strongest players in America.

Each age plays with its own strength and style, powered by a chess engine tuned to Morphy's open, attacking approach. Along the way you get move-by-move commentary, historical notes and Morphy's principles of development and attack.

The site is made by a chess YouTuber and chess-history fan. If you enjoy the game, the best way to support it is to share it with a friend and subscribe on YouTube.
